Testimonials

I am a fourth year Law student at the National University of Lesotho with an ambition of becoming a lawyer.
I decided to do my attachment at Webber Newdigate because it is a law firm known for high excellence in office administration and litigation. I first applied to the firm in the academic year 2013/2014 where I was chosen as a candidate to work with Webbers for six weeks. I attained tremendous experience that influenced me to re-apply for attachment in the academic year of 2014/2015. My application was favourably considered.
The firm is divided into departments which specialize in different aspects of law. There is the collections division, labour law division, conveyancing and Notarial division, Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) and the miscellaneous division. I had the privilege of rotating in three divisions over a period of six weeks. Namely, the collections, conveyancing and labour law division.
The firm does collections for various banks in Lesotho such as Nedbank, Standard Bank and First National Bank. The collections division staff work very hard towards ensuring that their clients get return on the amount they had loaned the public, whilst ensuring that the public is not prejudiced by the amount of interest and collections fee that they have to pay. They do this by handing out letters of demand of payment, and making telephone calls to debtors reminding them to pay their debts. It is only when the debtors fail to respond to the letter of demand that they commence legal action by way of summons.
The conveyancing division on the other hand deals with the registration of sub-lease agreements and deeds of transfer. The team in that department work hand in hand with LAA (Lesotho land Administration Authority) to ensure that title to land is transferred within a reasonable time. The Labour division deals with cases assigned by huge companies in Lesotho to solve employer- employee disputes.
The firm handles litigation cases take place in the Magistrate courts of all ten districts of Lesotho, as well as in the the High Court and the Court of Appeal. I have had the privilege of attending cases in the Magistrate Courts of TY, Leribe, Butha- Buthe and Maseru. I also attended numerous cases in the High Court and the Court of Appeal of Lesotho. In all the cases I attended, I have vastly benefited.

One of the curious questions I had asked myself before being an attaché at the firm was to know how they ranked the top law firm in the country; what it is they did differently from other law firms. I would then use my discoveries to benefit my aspiring career in law. I thought I would find hard faces that looked towards one goal of competitiveness. To my surprise, ever-smiling and warm hearted persons that carried out their work with high diligence and passion. The place was a work-friendly environment.
My observation is that to be on top of the game comes with a lot of hard work and sweat. The stressful times and the eagerness to excel make them the best. This was evident from the morning hours and late nights that the staff put in. This has led a great inspiration to me as a student as well as an aspiring legal practitioner.

Time is highly valued at Webber Newdigate. we had to be punctual in every task we took. On our first day it was made clear that we should come to work wearing flat shoes since we will to be running around the whole day. I found this to be appalling as my expectation was that we had to keep a formal dress code and wear stilettos. However, I later realised that in order to survive the running around and do my work properly, I had to be as comfortable as can be. Flat shoes were a necessity.
My experience has taught me that I can work under pressure and actually feel good at the end of it all. Working for a cutting-edge law firm like Webber Newdigate was indeed an honour and privilege. Being attached at Webber has been remarkable, and I feel the place has got me geared up to face the challenging world that I am to face after I complete My LLB at the National University of Lesotho next year.
